Grayson’s Art Club: The Exhibition
Client: Manchester Art Gallery
Agency: Office Of Craig
Deliverables: Branding / Exhibition / Print / Digital and Social / Publication
Role: Project Lead / Designer
During the first COVID-19 lockdown of 2020, Sir Grayson Perry, one of Britain's foremost artists, brought the nation together through art, helping them to unleash their creativity as part of his Channel 4 TV series Grayson’s Art Club. Every week he hosted the show from his own studio – taking the country with him as he created his own new artworks. Grayson and his wife Philippa talked to other famous artists, creatives and members of the public about their love of art and invited them to make their own works in response to set weekly themes.
The extensive breadth of submissions, and the joy Grayson and Philippa brought the nation during this difficult time, culminated in a celebratory exhibition of all the artworks, held at Manchester Art Gallery at the end of (yet another) lockdown in November 2020. Office Of Craig worked closely with the curatorial and marketing teams at Manchester Art Gallery as well as the teams at Swan Films and Channel 4 to bring Grayson’s Art Club to life at MAG. By creating a unique, fun and expressive identity which embodied the Art Club spirit, the exhibition enveloped the entire gallery space, helped bring visitor numbers back to pre-pandemic highs and broke records as the highest selling exhibition publication Manchester Art Gallery have ever produced.
Following on from it’s award-winning success in Manchester, Office Of Craig were invited to produce the publication for the series two exhibition at Bristol Museum & Art Gallery, and have most recently worked in collaboration with the team at the Midlands Art Centre, Birmingham, to breathe new life into the identity to create a fresh celebratory look for Grayson’s Art Club: The Exhibition III, which is now open at the MAC.
